Obituary for William Dick Hoyle

 HOYLE, William Dick:

William Dick Hoyle entered into rest at home on Wednesday, December 7th, 2022, in his 81st year, with his family at his side. Beloved husband of Elizabeth (Mattinson) for 56 years. Loving father of Wil (Amanda) of Peterborough, and Aaron (Gail) of Glenarm.  Adoring Bompa of Addyson and Liam. Caring brother to Ann Austin-Cardwell (George, predeceased) of Young’s Point. Brother-in-law to Jean and Walter Brownell (predeceased), Dorothy and Dave Stewart of Trenton, Marion and Chris Vito of Georgetown, Helen and Al Boston of Lindsay, and Joy and Bruce Muir of Bobcaygeon. Uncle to many wonderful nieces and nephews

Bill was born on February 25, 1942, in Lindsay, and attended S.S.#9 Fenelon Township Public School, Fenelon Falls Secondary School, and graduated from Ryerson Polytech Institute (now known as Toronto Metropolitan University) with a degree in Business Administration (Computer Sciences). He lived and worked in Toronto, before moving his young family back to the farm property near Glenarm where he grew up. Bill continued to commute to Toronto to work. Happy was the day when he became the first Director of Computer Services at the Ross Memorial Hospital in Lindsay, from which he retired in 2002.

From childhood he attended Knox Presbyterian Church in Glenarm, serving as an elder, treasurer, and trustee. After his retirement he became very involved in the Lindsay – Peterborough Presbytery, with much dedication fulfilling the role of Moderator, sitting on several committees, and until recently, serving as treasurer. He was also secretary/treasurer for Glenarm Cemetery.

Being raised on the family farm and living there throughout his adult years, allowed Bill to develop an appreciation for all things in nature, particularly trees, which he shared with all who were interested.  As a teenager he planted a large stand of white pine on the farm, many of which still stand today. After his retirement he became involved with the Kawartha Field Naturalists, serving on the Board of Directors, and producing a quarterly newsletter. He loved a good game of golf and had a regular weekly date with close friends where they experienced many of the fine courses in and around Kawartha Lakes. As couples, golf holidays were enjoyed in PEI, Quebec, Ontario, and Pennsylvania, as well as in Florida for the first few winters after retirement.

Bill loved his family and was a friend and mentor to many. He will be missed.

The family of Bill Hoyle will receive friends at St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, 89 Colborne Street, Fenelon Falls on Friday, December 16, 2022 from 1:00 p.m. until the time of funeral service at 2:30 p.m.  The service will be webcast live and the link can be found at www.jardinefuneralhome.com under Bill’s service information. Memorial donations may be made to Glenarm Cemetery or charity of your choice.
