Our introduction

It's been exactly 25 years since Diane introduced me to her Dad. I was warned before we went over to Linville that there was sports on that night and Dad might not give you too much time. Diane was right, we went in and she said, Dad, this is my friend Cliff. He said, nice to meet you Clifford, talk to you in a bit I'm going downstairs to watch the games. Diane said, I told you so, sports come first. My goodness, he had 2 tv's plugged in and was watching 2 games at once...I'd never seen anyone do that before.  The next time I went over he was making me laugh so hard I could barely finish my dinner. Les was a man who worked hard his whole life, and when he retired spent endless hours walking his furry little sweet-heart "Belle"back and forth along the highway into town.  We used to chuckle because when Les would go to have an afternoon nap in the back bedroom if Shirley wanted to come into the bedroom sometimes Belle would growl at her. She was so possessive of Les - they were joined at the hip. Les made a jolly jumper for my daughter Madison and son Josh because he wanted them to get some exercise. He put a hook in the archway and hung this contraption and the kids had a blast jumping up and down. Another time we went to see them and he was so proud - he made a stepping machine downstairs-another contraption that was so funny to see. So many stories over the years-he showed my kids how to pull on the ropes and ring the bells at Church. When Diane and  I had a business he came down and helped build shelves, archways and even manufactured a 12 foot ladder out of split cedar rails and the rungs were the wood from skids. My goodness this man could make almost anything and was so creative. Most of all we will miss that laugh of his and the quick comebacks if you teased him which we did quite often. He taught me how to make pancakes and his grilled cheese sandwiches were something my kids always looked forward to having with Grandpa. A couple of years ago my kids said, Dad your meatloaf is good but Grandpa's is better. He would take the kids for tractor rides in the backyard and around the house over and over. He called me Meathead and I called him Archie Bunker. Archie, we will never forget you and may you Rest in Peace! All our love,Cliff, Diane, Madison, Joshua and Jacob.
