Obituary for Antti Jaakko Kivisto

Antti Kivisto, 83, passed away surrounded by the love of his family and friends on May 10, 2023.

Antti was born in Jalasjarvi, Finland in 1940 and moved to Canada in 1964.  While he loved Canada, his Finnish upbringing and heritage were bedrocks of his personality whether that meant consuming more coffee than advisable, saunas that were frequent and hot, or a love of lakes and the outdoors.

Aptly, Antti’s character was also best expressed by the uniquely Finnish word “Sisu”.  Sisu can be roughly translated into English as a type of steely perseverance and grit.  Unsurprisingly, Antti never met a job that was too difficult.  He instilled this enthusiasm for opportunity versus obstacle in his family and friends.  Therefore, while we mourn Antti’s passing, we also celebrate a life of profound impact and love – a testament to a life well lived.

Antti will be sorely missed but forever remembered by his family and friends, most notably, his wife Leena, his children Marko (Christine), Matti (Marci) and Liisa (Jared), his grandchildren Oliver, Charlotte, Cameron, and Ellie and his brother Lauri in Finland.  He is now at peace with his siblings Olavi, Ilmari, and Helena.

A service and celebration will be held this summer in Antti’s memory at the Finnish Agricola Lutheran Church in Toronto.  Details to follow.  To leave an on-line condolence, or to share a photo or story please visit: www.jardinefuneralhome.com
