Obituary for Gerrit Struik

Gerrit Struik
Gerrit Struik: August 27, 1927 - August 12, 2016

With hearts thankful for his full life, we announce the passing of Gerrit Struik on Friday, August 12, 2016, in his 89th year. Born in Borger, the Netherlands, he immigrated to Canada in 1953 where he met his wife Aartje Veerman, and married her in Toronto on January 19, 1957. Gerrit and Aartje were hard-working immigrants who came to Canada with little, and together made a successful career in farming. Widowed since 2012, Gerrit leaves behind his children Peter (Brenda), Mark (Jennifer), Isabel, Naomi (Jonathan) and his grandchildren Luke, Josh, and Christina. He is survived by a number of siblings and extended family and friends, and was loved by those who knew him. He was a kind, devout, honest man with a subtle sense of humour, and firmly held views. He was a caring father and husband and devout Christian who will be greatly missed. The family is grateful for the excellent, compassionate care he received from the staff at Pinecrest Nursing Home, Ross Memorial Hospital, and spiritual support from Knox Presbyterian Church, Bobcaygeon and St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Fenelon Falls, as well as from friends and family. Visitation will be held at Jardine Funeral Home, Cremation & Tribute Centre 8 Princes’ Street West, Fenelon Falls, ON., on Monday, August 15 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Interment to take place Tuesday August 16, at 9:30 a.m. Memorial service with reception to follow at Knox Presbyterian Church, Bobcaygeon, ON, at 11:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Pinecrest Nursing Home Activities program, Knox Presbyterian Church (Bobcaygeon), or Ross Memorial Hospital would be appreciated. May you, Papa, now rest in peace with God. We love you!
