Obituary for Guy Philip Castonguay

Guy was promoted to glory on December 27, 2022, in his home in the embrace of his loving wife, after a courageous, arduous battle with Bulbar ALS.

He will be missed by his wife, Pat, her daughter, Stephanie, along with her husband, Kris, and granddaughters, Alexis, Olivia and Ashley, and also by her son, Dave, his wife, Jen, and grandson, Jack. He leaves behind his sister, Gladys, niece Julie and nephew Michael as well as his brother Al, his wife Judi and their daughter Kimberly.

Guy was born in Toronto and grew up in Concord. He was hired at IBM right after completing Thornhill Secondary  School. He completed his technology training through 4 years of night school at the DeVry Institute of Technology.  Guy worked at IBM in product development engineering for 26 years, retired early at 46 and then had a second career as a school bus driver for 15 years.   He lived in north Toronto and owned a cottage on Balsam Lake. During this time he served on municipal government committees, a community justice circle, the Red Cross, and the Lions. He umpired softball for 20 years.

After he retired to his winterized cottage he joined Glenarm Church,   where he served on the Board of Managers.  He and Pat joined the Salvation Army in 2009.  He gave his soul to the Lord in 2014.   His long-term commitment and service to the Fenelon Falls Citadel will be missed, as will his contribution to the local Gideons/Shareword Global Chapter.  Under his leadership the group participated in many Christmas Parades.  His last outing at Lindsay Parade on November 20, 2022 was especially memorable.  He was a devoted regular at Men’s Breakfasts and Trentside Baptist Men’s Bible Study group sessions.

Guy was a man of many talents and interests.  He enjoyed playing and singing gospel and country music, and developed a Johnny C(r)ash character!  He spent a lot of time working on farm equipment and vehicles with good friend and neighbour Jerry. He took on many building projects,  renovating, maintaining and winterizing his cottage on Balsam Lake and later adding to his hobby farm home with Pat, “Heaven at Last”, near Cameron.  He was enthusiastic about dancing and riding his horse and his ATV. He and Pat travelled widely, especially enjoying Barbados. He was known for engaging in spirited political debates and was always ready to share his opinions with you.

Donations to the ALS Society, Salvation Army Fenelon Falls or Gideons, made in his memory, would be appreciated. To leave an on-line condolence, make a donation or to share a photo or story please visit: www.jardinefuneralhome.com
