Obituary for John Ralph Stewart

Stewart - John Ralph Stewart "Gramps", long time resident of Fenelon Falls, ON and recent resident of Brackley Beach, PEI, avid hockey arena/community grandpa, died peacefully at his residence on Dec. 24, 2022.

John was the highschool sweetheart, soulmate and best friend of Kathy Stewart.  Together they built a legacy of strength, support, love and above all else a family that always came first.

That gift will be carried on by daughters Shannon and Ashleigh Stewart and their beautiful children Coulson, Nixon, Landon, Presley and Hudson who were the light of his life.  He is together again playing hockey, fishing and thrift shopping with grandson Phoenix in heaven.  John was also awaited by his loving parents Ralph and Joyce Stewart and sister Cathy of Fenelon Falls.

John will be loved and missed by his extended family, friends and hockey communities everywhere.  He was the bonus grandpa to many.  Whether it was a provider of rides, treats, a dollar or two, a tow around the lake or a pillar of strength and love.  He didn’t need to be in the spotlight, he was just happy to watch everyone else shine.

As a young man John was a true "rough, tough creampuff" on and off the ice.  But when it came to loving his people there isn’t a kinder, more gentle or patient heart on this earth.  As a spectator in the stands he would be your biggest cheerleader, if you didn’t miss the shot or forget to backcheck.  And if he didn’t agree with the refs call, he would surely be tossed and could be found pacing in the parking lot. John saved his sweet, softer side for his beautiful granddaughters who he greeted everyday with the biggest, best hug and a "Have I told you, you look pretty today?"

He was a contractor by trade but his true calling on this earth was lover and protector of his family, which he will remain for all of eternity.

In the words of this extraordinary gentleman, he would want us to ask you all that are grieving him today, "Who’s got the biggest smile?"

Arrangements entrusted to Moase Funeral Home, Summerside. A celebration of John's life will take place at Fenelon Falls Community Centre, 27 Veterans Way, Fenelon Falls on Saturday January 7, 2023 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. with words of remembrance at 1:30 p.m. Memorial donations to the Sick Kids Hospital, Toronto, ON, would be appreciated.
