Doreen's Love Note to Lou

A year has passed since you left my side but never my heart Lou.  I have felt your presence with me every day watching over me with love as always.  So many beautiful, wonderful memories we shared over all the years we were married have flooded back into my memory continuously throughout this past year.  I have missed you so very much but these precious memories have kept you with me still and will always do so.

I am comforted by the fact that I know you have never really left me nor ever will.  We made that promise to each other. You have given me so many signs to remind me that you are still with me now and always will be.  The Cardinals, your Heavenly Messengers show up at such significant times and Our Song plays when least expected, but always at the right time.  You are always nearby watching over me. Your love and you, live in my heart forever Lou.

As we would always say to each other every night,

“See you in a few honey. I love you too”.

Love Doreen  aka  Your Honeydo                      Safe In The Arms Of Jesus!

On the first anniversary of the passing of my stepfather, Lou Romanelli, a lot of good thoughts and memories come to mind. Lou was always a loving husband to my mother, Doreen Romanelli, and my mother has missed him and cherished the memories of the life they had together every day since his passing. Lou was also very good to me and my brothers, Kevin and Joe, over the years. He was always there to listen and give advice, to help with packing or moving or giving any kind of helping hand, to pick you up and give you a ride if you needed it – Lou was always there. When my nephew Connor came along, Lou was then there for him as well, as countless photos show. And then there were some of his favorite boys, Dickens and Duke, two loving labs, and the very independent and moody tabby cat Perry, who would welcome Lou’s rough and aggressive petting when no one else could touch him. Lou also had his sons, Jim and Peter, and fondly remembered trips and camping and things they did together over the years. And then they had families too, with wives and children. The brothers and friends Lou knew as a firefighter were his extended family, and he never stopped talking about them. He didn’t talk so much about the action he saw, or some of the horrible things he might have seen. It was the good men that he knew and worked with. That was first and foremost. Lou wasn’t just there for everybody though: he was there, but more than that, he was always the life of the party, laughing and talking and entertaining everyone. In all of that though, he was not always comfortable clearly saying how he felt, or what he thought, but if you knew him, and you were there to spend time together, you understood him and you felt how he cared. With all of that being said, Lou was a simple man in some ways, and complicated in others, but a very memorable and strong presence in the lives of anybody that knew him. Time has passed since Lou left us, but he has never really left us. That kind of presence and character is something we will always remember, and something sorely missed in today’s crazy world.

Louis Leo Romanelli

July 31, 1931~April 15, 2023

Beloved and devoted husband and soulmate of Doreen; dear son of the late Giovanni and Moriah Romanelli; dearly loved father of Jim (Maura) and the late Peter; and step father of Derek, Kevin and Joe O’Gorman.  Forever loved and dearly missed papa of Connor O’Gorman; and loving grandpa of Sean, Nicole (Jeremy) and Eric Romanelli.  Loving brother of late siblings, Dorothy (Art), Kate (Ross), Jack (Erma) and Marie; and adored nephew of the late orchestra leader, Luigi Romanelli.

Lou will be fondly remembered by family, his many friends, and by those who worked alongside him during his 38 years with

the Toronto Fire Department from July 1957 to February 1995, when he retired as Captain. He displayed a wonderful sense of humour and a smile that would light up a room.  Lou always had a kind word for everyone.  He will be dearly missed by all.

Over the years, Lou and Doreen shared their love for each other with their beloved pets, and their dogs and cats reaped

the benefits.  Dickens, Duke, Perry, Hope and grand-cat, Tigger, are all joyfully greeting “Daddy” now on the rainbow

bridge. Lou’s grand-dog, Domino, will miss his company while relaxing with him on the front deck at the cottage; as will

grand-cat, Twinkle.

Lou and Doreen also enjoyed a mutual love of travel and shared so many wonderful memories, including, Britain, Euro Rail , European adventures, Greece, numerous cruises, bus trip tours, winters in Florida and summers at the cottage; a full and happy life well lived.

We wish to extend our heartfelt thanks to Dr. Joel Broomfield, whom due to his skill and knowledge was able to give

Lou an extended, precious quality living time.  We thank him for his sincere caring and compassion he showed to Lou and our family.

The family of Lou Romanelli will receive friends at Jardine Funeral Home, Cremation and Tribute Centre,

8 Princes’ St. W., Fenelon Falls, on Wednesday, April 19, 2023, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.,

followed by a graveside service in Fenelon Falls Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, and due to his love of animals, a donation in Lou’s memory to one of his favourite charities, the Ontario SPCA  or Durham Humane Society, or to a charity of your choice would be appreciated. To leave an online condolence or make a donation please visit: www.jardinefuneralhome.com
