Obituary for Maria Salvador (Tomasi)

SALVADOR, Maria

Maria Salvador, (nee Tomasi), after a battle with breast cancer, passed away peacefully with her daughter by her side at Fenelon Court on December 4. She was born on July 27, 1934 in Corbanese, Italy, to the late Antonio and Margarita Tomasi . She was the sister of Gigito, Silvana (Sister Lidia-Rita), Valentino, and the late Angelo, Caterina, Mose, Erminio and Dima. As a young woman, Maria bravely left her family and way of life in Italy to join her beloved (late) husband, Pietro, in Toronto. Together they raised four children and for a time ran a small grocery store in Rosedale, Ontario. Maria was the loving mother of Loris (Sandra), Sonia (John), Paula (Roland) and Sandra (Brian) and dear Nonna of Kyle, Stephanie (Nathan), Julia, Nick (Oliva), Chris, Jack, Curtis, and Alex. Maria was a firecracker that brought a positive, happy energy wherever she went. She could make anyone feel welcome with her infectious belly laugh. She loved her grandkids, cooking for people, (especially her popular spaghetti sauce that no one else could ever quite replicate) working in her garden (or anyone else’s garden), and watching her favourite tv shows . She also loved animals, going to church, flowers, and meals that reminded her of her childhood in Italy—like polenta, radicchio and spicitino. She was as generous with her hugs and kisses as she was free with the occasional spicy or teasing comment. She will be greatly missed by her family and her friends at Fenelon Court where she lived for the last 5 years. Her hoots and cheers and her soft, comfy hugs will never be forgotten by those who knew her. The family of Maria Salvador will receive friends at JARDINE FUNERAL HOME, CREMATION & TRIBUTE CENTRE, 8 Princes’ St. West, Fenelon Falls, on Friday December 9, 2022 from 10 a.m. until time of funeral service in the chapel at 11 a.m. Interment at Resurrection Cemetery, Whitby at 3:00 p.m. The family would like to express their deep appreciation for the nurses, personal support workers and staff at Fenelon Court Long Term Care. Memorial donations to the Canadian Cancer Society (Breast Cancer) would be appreciated by the family.
