Lifelong Friendship

Patty and I met in Grade 8 when  I moved to Blythwood School and Patty took me under her wing.  We quickly realized that Patty was better at Math andI I was a bit better at English so we "coached" each other- read "swapped homework".  Everything went well until high school when we were split into different classes. However, we still did homework together --and went to Guides, then Rangers and spent time at Patly together, sometimes with other Guiding friends.  We both became teachers and then Patty met Wout, the love of her life.  When they married, I was one of the bridesmaids, with Nancy.  A few years later, after I married too, both couples moved to different cities at different times, so getting together was complicated. However,  we saw each other for special occasions, and really made that count.  In the last few years, as Patty struggled with illness, she fought a courageous battle, often willing herself to travel or visit with friends, even when it  was painful and very challenging.  During her last setback, she endured so much and was finally overwhelmed. She said how much Wout, Suzie, Beth, Greg and their families had supported her, and how grateful she was. May you all have memories of Patty at her fiesty best-- a devoted wife and mother,  who loved you all more than she could ever say. May my beloved Patty, a faithful friend of 63 years, be at peace and no longer in pain.  I will always hear  her laughter, and the click of her knitting needles, as she sat knitting in a rocker, looking out over the lake,  and told us a funny story.
