Condolence: Dear Anne Rowsell:

The thoughts of Roly and Kingsley Armitage are with you at this time. No one has honored the D.V.M. Degree or portrayed professionalism more so than Harry, we have pleasant thoughts.

Condolence: It was with sadness that we read about Harry's passing in this morning's Globe. I first recall meeting Harry when I was student at Guelph and I volunteered to canvass for the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Several years later while a science teacher with the Ottawa Board of Education, I was involved with the Ottawa Regional and Canada Wide Science Fairs. I sat on committees with Harry and always appreciated the leadership he provided by founding the Canadian Council on Animal Care. In meeting with students, he was always encouraging of their projects and gently moved them away from research with animals unless there was no other alternative. The scientific community will miss his sage advice and wisdom.
My wife, Judi, did rug hooking with Ann during the mid to late 70's before she went back to school to study art and remembers great times "hooking" at each others homes.
Our thoughts are with you during your loss
Sincerely
Mel & Judi MacLeod

Condolence: I was deeply saddened to read in today's Globe and Mail of Harry's passing. I remember Harry well from my days in the Psychology Department at Carleton University when Harry was building, and I served on, the Canadian Council on Animal Care. Through his leadership of the CCAC and through passionate commitment to the idea that good science goes hand in hand with compassion and caring, he had an enormous influence on me for which I am deeply grateful. I remember well his warm sense of humour that I always enjoyed. Although I never met his family, he always spoke of his wife and children in tones of warm affection and it was clear that family was so important to him. I am sure he will be missed greatly! Although we lost touch some years ago when I left Ottawa, on many occasions over the years I have recalled interactions I had with Harry and ideas that had their origin with him. I feeled honoured and privileged to have had my life course intersect with his. My deep and sincere condolescences to the family at this sad time.

Condolence: It was with great sadness that I read of Harry's passing. We were classmates, along with Roy, in WW11 officers training in the RCNVR, and attended many of the class reunions with them. My sincere sympathy is extended to all the family.

Condolence: My sincere condolences to the Rowsell family. I had the privelage of knowing Dr. Rowsell while I worked in the AUCC library which was down the hall from CCAC. He was most certainly a true gentleman who treated everyone with kindness and respect. He will be sorely missed by those who knew him.

Condolence: Dear Anne:

On behalf of the Superior Court Judges from the Central East Region, I am sorry for your loss. The write-up about Harry sure is impressive. I am glad I met him at Alan's Swearing-in at Whitby. Your nephew is following in the tradition of his father and uncle, i.e. accomplishing a lot and being a wonderful person to know.

All the best.

Bruce Glass
