Carew James "Grant", 10 Aug 1920-05 Nov 2011



James Grant Carew, in his 92nd year, son of John James and Pearl (Ellis) Carew, passed away peacefully in his sleep at Crown Ridge Place Nursing Home, Trenton, Ontario, on Saturday, 5 November 2011, with family at his side. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 47 years, Grace Watt, by their infant daughter Elizabeth, and by his second wife of ten years, Eleanor (Rettie) Switzer; also predeceased by his son-in law, Grenville Bacon, and his great-grandson, Kailab Chilvers. He was predeceased by his dear sister Violet and brothers Henry, Oscar, and Ralph. Grant is survived by his son John and wife Susan (Faulkner), his daughter Wendy Bacon, and his daughter Margaret and her husband Norbert Huer. He is lovingly remembered by his brother Dean and his wife Donna (Donaldson) Carew, his cherished grandchildren, Shannon (McCrory) and Glen Chilvers, Ronald and Monica (Vancauwenberghe) McCrory, Eric and Natalie (Grieve) Huer, Kevin Huer and Ayron Little, and his treasured great-grandchildren, Harleigh, Emitt, Hailey, Aimee and Hunter. He is fondly remembered by his step-sons, Randy, Gary and Kevin Switzer and their families, and by his many nieces and nephews. During his lifetime, Grant enjoyed two full careers, military service with the Royal Canadian Air Force during peace and war, and farming in Somerville Township, at his birthplace and home near Burnt River, Ontario. Grant will be missed by numerous friends and colleagues. The family of Mr. Carew will receive friends at JARDINE FUNERAL HOME, CREMATION & TRIBUTE CENTRE, 8 Princes' St. West, on Friday evening from 7-9 p.m. and on Saturday November 12, 2011 from 10:30 a.m. until time of service in the chapel at 11:30 a.m. Interment at Fenelon Falls Cemetery. Memorial donations to the Burnt River Community Centre or the charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family.
