Jacqy's Guiding Hand, on the mouse!

I taught for 3 years at Fenelon Falls Secdondary School, and many times I'd get Jacqy's advice about Special Needs Students.  At some point all teachers had to complete an outline of program adaptation for students with Special Needs.

Jacqy arranged for all teachers to be excused from class so they could some down to the Special Ed office to get help inputing the program adaptations into the computer.  Ha!  I didn't have a clue what I was supposed to do.  Anyway, I sat down at the computer with Jacqy and she summoned the list of my students.

She asked, 'So how can we help Suzy in your Englsh class?"

"Ah...." i said.

"How about making the test more visual in nature and give her extra time to complete them?"

"Well, sure"

Jacqy's fingers flew over the keyboard.  "Hmmm... Nigel Withers.  He's a bit of an oxygen hog isn't he?"

"Well he does need a lot of,,,"

"Let's make sure he get's plenty of one on one instruction.  He definitely would benefit from an EA's guidance, don't you think?"

"Ah, that's a good idea..."

So on it went.  Jacqy always asked me to approve her comments, but of course she did all the work.  When the task was complete, Jacquy looked at me and said, without a trace of sarcasm, "Thanks for coming in Guy".

I bumped into Jacqy once or twice in the years after I left Fenelon, and she always greeted me warmly.  it's sad to think that Jacqy isn't out there somewhere, helping someone.
