Obituary for Kathleen Alice "Kay" Brohm (Rowan)

Kathleen Alice "Kay" Brohm (Rowan)
Born April 20, 1924.
Peacefully with her daughter by her side on Tuesday April 22, 2014 at Bradford Valley Long Term Care in her 91st year. Lovingly remembered by Doris and her husband John Purdy, Susan and her husband Nick Bastian, and granddaughter Jennifer Bastian all of Bradford. She leaves behind a sister Audrey Kimberley of Orillia, and a sister-in-law Anna Rowan of Winter Haven, Florida. Predeceased by her husband Howard and brothers Frank, Ken and Gordon Rowan and sister Dorothy Breckles. Kay was raised in Orillia and worked as a bookkeeper at Hunter Boats where she met Howard in 1942. They were married in 1944, remained in Orillia for a couple of years and after several moves settled in Aurora where Kay raised her two daughters.
In 1958 she got a private pilot’s licence. Kay and Howard logged many hours in the air visiting friends and flying the lakes in Muskoka-Haliburton area. During the time her girls were skating, Kay was active in the Aurora Figure Skating Club as treasurer, secretary, vice-president and helped with sewing costumes for carnivals. Kay worked part-time in the office at Cousin’s Dairy and was on the Aurora Centennial Committee for Aurora’s 100 birthday celebration in 1967. In 1975, Kay and Howard retired to Fenelon Falls where she helped renovate Howard’s family home on Cameron Lake. Kay joined the Fenelon Falls Curling Club and they also did some travelling. When the airplane was sold in 1984 they bought a small cruiser which was moored at their dock and spent a few summers cruising the Trent Severn Waterway. After Howard passed away in 1996, Kay lived a quiet life at home focusing on her daughter’s lives and enjoying her yard. Kay was a member of the Immanuel Baptist Church in Fenelon Falls and enjoyed her Sunday services very much.
In 2008 Kay moved to William Place Retirement Residence in Lindsay. Her final days were spent at Bradford Valley Long Term Care, close to her daughters in Bradford.
