Condolence: GONE BUT NEVER FORGOTTEN,
To the Johnstone Family, please accept our sincere condolenses in the passing of Bob earlier this week. It is a sad day for all, but we should feel so fortunate to have known him, not just on the ball field, but as a good friend. Bob always left people with a certain good feeling towards everything that surrouded him. I remember every time that he was heading to the bullpen at Christie Pits to warm up for another relief appearance,a number of youngsters and adults would gather to watch his every move. He was something special to them and they, as baseball fans, meant so much to Bob. The visiting teams would arrive for a Sunday afternoon game in Toronto and they would ask me, "will Flakey" Johnstone be here today?" And when I would answer, "yes, he's out there working out with the rest of the team", a definite empty look of intimidation and fear would show on their faces.
Although, at times, somewhat rough around the edges, he was a fun loving individual, always looking at the brighter side of life with a good joke or story. A true friend, believe me, he knew his place and was always a gentleman towards my wife and I. His passing is a sad time for all of us, but the fun times and memories of Bob Johnstone will be with us forever.
Sincerely,
Ray and Thelma Ridler,
Scarborough, Ontario

Condolence: HAPPINESS LIES FOR THOSE WHO CRY, THOSE WHO HURT, THOSE WHO HAVE SEARCHED, AND THOSE WHO HAVE TRIED, FOR ONLY THEY CAN APPRECIATE THE IMPORTANCE OF PEOPLE WHO HAVE TOUCHED THEIR LIVES.

It was in the spring in Lachine, Quebec, 1966 that we finally met, however our reputations in baseball had preceded us. Bob Johnstone was the brilliant young pitcher from Scarborough and I was that shortstop from the City Playgrounds, considered the best in Canada, at the time. We had the potential and were very optimistic towards playing professional baseball and we both loved the game with a passion. Also, it was ironic that Bob and I had both signed baseball contracts to play in the New York Mets organization. After that summer, I returned home to Toronto and Bob continued his dream to play pro ball. Ever since that first day, there was a special feeling between us, a bond of friendship that would last forever. During the late 60
