Obituary for Shirley Mae Scott (Barrett)

Shirley Mae Scott (Barrett)
SCOTT, Shirley Mae (nee Barrett)

Beloved wife of the late George W. Scott (1920-1993), Shirley passed away peacefully in her 83rd year with her daughters by her side on Monday, May 30, 2016 at Ross Memorial Hospital in Lindsay. Loving mother of Margaret Jones of Beaumont, Alberta and Alison Scott of Fenelon Falls and dear grandmother of Kathleen and Samuel Jones (Kaitlin). Shirley will be sorely missed by her sister Ruth Robb of Whitecourt, Alberta and was pre-deceased by her brother Howard Barrett and her sisters, Frances Wild and Mildred LeGrow. Born in Toronto on May 5th, 1934, Shirley attended Bedford Park School and Lawrence Park Collegiate before proudly graduating from Salvation Army Grace Hospital Windsor in 1955. She loved her sojourn nursing in Smooth Rock Falls, Red Lake and Winnipeg, later returning to Toronto and marrying George on July 4, 1964 at the Guildwood Inn. Shirley and George left Scarborough to farm and raise sheep for many years near Janetville. A trained concert pianist, she faithfully supported her church and was organist at Nestleton, Ballyduff and Fenelon Falls Presbyterian Churches for many years. Always active in her community, Shirley never hesitated to share her many talents with historical, musical and creative endeavours ranging from the Scarborough Historical Society to the Manvers Arts and Crafts Show. In keeping with her wishes cremation has taken place and her remains will be interred in the Scott family plot at Melville Presbyterian Church - West Hill. Visitation will be held at Ballyduff Presbyterian Church on Saturday, June 11th from 10:30 am until time of funeral service in the church at 11:30 am. If desired, memorial contributions to the Canadian Red Cross, Covenant House or Scarborough Historical Society can be arranged by JARDINE FUNERAL HOME, CREMATION & TRIBUTE CENTRE.
