Maynard Olson

It was with great shock and disbelief that I only recently learned of Al's death so many years ago. I had long hoped to re-acquaint with him after all these years to reminisce about memories in Saskatchewan. Growing up together in the small town of Sturgis, I knew Al very well. We were in band in High School and both in the Boy Scouts. I remember him stopping at our house on his way home after school to take Morse code lessons from my dad to help him get his amateur radio (ham) license. With that, he set up a "ham" shack in his bedroom at home. Music was his great passion and he would write music parts for a few of us in the band who would get together and have great jam sessions. I lost track of Al after our university years when he moved out to Ontario in the 1960's. I'm sorry to say that I never saw him again. He was certainly one of the most brilliant people I ever knew. My sincere (belated) condolences to his family and friends.
