Angelica

After the passing of my uncle, I am filled with only positive memories. Even though at times his sickness prevented him from participating fully in all activities, it never took away his unwavering courage, love and wit. I saw firsthand how the cancer challenged him every day, and how brave he was throughout it all. Despite his daily struggles he always remained a gentleman whose class was unchallenged. I will never forget all the valuable life lessons he taught me while simply sitting at the breakfast table or in the late evening hours before bed. I don’t think he ever fully realized the great affect he had, and still has on me. Whatever your question or problem he was always there with a non-judgemental attitude and helping hand. I always tried to “soak in” everything he said because I knew it was coming from a place of honesty and integrity. As I recall all of the times we shared as a family, I’ll never forget the times on the boat or the late Saturday morning Eggs Benedict. Every so often, for just a few minutes my uncle would let me take hold of the steering wheel of the boat, under his ever watchful eye. To me it didn’t matter that I wasn’t the ‘captain’ but the simple fact that he wanted to give me some joy and responsibility meant the world to me. And who can forget Saturday mornings! I would awake to the smell of Uncle Dave’s delicious Eggs Benedict. I remember watching with excitement as Uncle Dave would control the kitchen like a master chef. He worked like a well oiled machine making sure everyone was happy with his breakfast creation, never forgetting the black olive slice on top. His extraordinary wisdom, compassion, and enduring love touched all those he met, especially my dear Aunt Judy. To see their love for one another each day was so touching, they were without doubt soul mates. I miss my uncle, but I know he is Heaven looking down on all those he loves, especially his Judy, his daughters and new grandson. Thank-you Uncle Dave, I love you... Angelica
