Our first stop outside of Taipei

Just before we set off into the Gorge, on the east side of Taiwan (near Hualian) our trusty tour guide snapped this photo

Here are the intrepid Taroko Gorge adventurers after a hard day's -- errrr, ummm, leisurely strolling...as best as I recall

An amusing evening when you were a little tentative at first, Jim, but then you declared "when in Taiwan, do as the Taiwanese do" and proceeded to join Shipei and I in eating sushi from a street side vendor, all the while Mom remained squeamish, even though she was the nurse! I knew then you were truly ready for adventure!

Although this is a fuzzy scan of a Polaroid, it is one of our absolute favourites, Jim, Christmas Dinner 2007 in Hualian, complete with roast turkey and all the usual fixin', like cranberry sauce, Chinese greens, dumplings and, of course, a visit from Taiwanese Santa. We will cherish that trip, always. RIP, Tom and Shipei xoxo
