Mr and Mrs Ray Ridler

GONE BUT NEVER FORGOTTEN, To the Johnstone Family, please accept our sincere condolenses in the passing of Bob earlier this week. It is a sad day for all, but we should feel so fortunate to have known him, not just on the ball field, but as a good friend. Bob always left people with a certain good feeling towards everything that surrouded him. I remember every time that he was heading to the bullpen at Christie Pits to warm up for another relief appearance,a number of youngsters and adults would gather to watch his every move. He was something special to them and they, as baseball fans, meant so much to Bob. The visiting teams would arrive for a Sunday afternoon game in Toronto and they would ask me, "will Flakey" Johnstone be here today?" And when I would answer, "yes, he's out there working out with the rest of the team", a definite empty look of intimidation and fear would show on their faces. Although, at times, somewhat rough around the edges, he was a fun loving individual, always looking at the brighter side of life with a good joke or story. A true friend, believe me, he knew his place and was always a gentleman towards my wife and I. His passing is a sad time for all of us, but the fun times and memories of Bob Johnstone will be with us forever. Sincerely, Ray and Thelma Ridler, Scarborough, Ontario
