HAPPINESS LIES FOR THOSE WHO CRY, THOSE WHO HURT, THOSE WHO HAVE SEARCHED, AND THOSE WHO HAVE TRIED, FOR ONLY THEY CAN APPRECIATE THE IMPORTANCE OF PEOPLE WHO HAVE TOUCHED THEIR LIVES. It was in the spring in Lachine, Quebec, 1966 that we finally met, however our reputations in baseball had preceded us. Bob Johnstone was the brilliant young pitcher from Scarborough and I was that shortstop from the City Playgrounds, considered the best in Canada, at the time. We had the potential and were very optimistic towards playing professional baseball and we both loved the game with a passion. Also, it was ironic that Bob and I had both signed baseball contracts to play in the New York Mets organization. After that summer, I returned home to Toronto and Bob continued his dream to play pro ball. Ever since that first day, there was a special feeling between us, a bond of friendship that would last forever. During the late 60
