Tiffany Lau

Mr. Krueger, I will never be able to thank you enough for the indelible mark you made on my high school years. I came to NTCI because of its renowned music program, known all over Toronto as the best and most competitive. I remember my early run-ins with you, where you gave me stern warnings not to talk during rehearsals, and private encouragment and advice on pieces to pick for my solo performances during visits to your crammed office, full of piles of sheet music and the errant instrument. The music program under your leadership was a well-oiled machine, and you were deeply respected, loved, and sometimes feared. I saw the effect you had on my talented peers, motivating all of us to not only be better musicians and students, but better human beings as well. While a few wayward ones fell through the cracks, I don't think you ever gave up on any one of us, even those who almost gave up on music. To know you are gone forever saddens me deeply, as I never got to thank you in my adulthood for all that you have done for me. I could have easily been one of the ones that fell through the cracks, had it not been for my achievements and self-confidence enabled by you. Fond memories will forever be etched in my mind - auditioning for you on my clarinet, piano, and voice, basking in the thunderous roar of standing ovations, with you smiling back at us, our band trip to New Brunswick, and the BBQ you hosted for a few of us in your own backyard, shortly after graduation. Even though I was not able to pay a visit over the past 14 years since I've moved to New York, I hope that your life in this final chapter was full of love, laughter, and most of all, music. With my deepest condolences to your family, Tiffany Lau
