My Great Aunt Beth

My fondest memory of my Great Aunt Beth takes me back to a cottage up north that my family was renting one summer.  Aunt Beth came for a visit and brought some local wild blueberries and cream.  I remember her telling me that you HAD to have a bit of cream and sugar with the blueberries as it was the only way to eat them.  She was right!  That was also the summer that she got me hooked on the classics.  That summer, Aunt Beth transported me to Maycomb where I befriended Scout and Jem; raised my fist at Bob Ewell; and, smiled when meeting Boo.  From Maycomb, I landed on a tropical island where a group of British boys were learning to survive after a horrible plane crash.  I was amazed, sickened and on the edge of my seat as their adventures as civilians changed many into savages.  When Aunt Beth talked about these books (and others) you couldn't help but go right out and get them.

Thank you, Aunt Beth, for making literature come to life!  You gave me a wonderful gift!  xo  Catherine
