Wartime memory

On a sunny spring day in 1942 my parents took my sister and me to a parade in Galt of young men and women going off to the war. They came from many surrounding towns and villages in Ontario. I was only 7 years old but I'll never forget seeing my Aunt Beth marching with the Canadian Women's Army Corp. or famously known as CWACS. I was so proud of Beth who was a good looking blond young woman with a determined look on her face. . Beth sent us many letters during the war years telling us about her experiences driving an ambulance in England during the German bombing raids. Those letters brought the war closer to home for our family.
