Dirty Laundry

When I came to vist,Sarge in her little house up in Rosedale, she would talk about her experiences in the war, telling me how they would count the bloody sheets to learn how the fighting was going on at the front. They could tell by the number of sheets and the concentration of the blood, how many wounded were being brought into the hospitals, or the morgues. They were always glad when there were smaller loads of less stained sheets because it meant "our boys" were safe.. She talked about the great discipline she learned in the army and the great friends she made there. She said the war taught her to laugh even in the face of disaster, and march on to accomplish whatever needs doing. Sarge was certainly a fine and resolute lady!
